Dear Mountain View Parents/Guardians,

I hope this message finds you well and you are getting ready to enjoy a Christmas break filled with lots of fun and family time. We wanted to take a moment to be transparent about the TCAP State Assessment results for MVS from the 2022-2023 school year.

Each year the Tennessee Department of Education examines schools’ performance across several different indicators to provide an overall look at how schools are serving the needs of all students. The department of education included the following indicators in its analysis of elementary school accountability: Student achievementstudent growthEnglish learner proficiency exam (ELPA), and chronic absenteeism. More information on each of these indicators and the data used to define them can be found in the 2022-2023 Accountability Protocol. Under the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the department is required to use the school accountability results to identify those schools with the lowest performance across student groups.  These schools will receive additional supports from the department.

The Tennessee Department of Education provides annual federal school accountability designations that reflect performance and growth in accordance with federal law. Included in these designations are schools identified for Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI).

Mountain View School has been identified for “Targeted Support and Improvement” (TSI) as required by ESSA and the U.S. Department of Education during the 23-24 school year based off 22-23 State TCAP data. We can be removed from the TSI list by showing growth on the TCAP for this school year.

We are working hard with the district and the Tennessee Department of Education to increase student performance by implementing the following programs and best practices:

·      After School Tutoring Program

·      Summer Tutoring Program

·      RTI

·      Tier 1 Small Group Targeted Instruction

·      Job Embedded Professional Development

We encourage you to help by participating in the development and implementation of our school improvement plan.  Your support and involvement are crucial in this process, and together, we can make a positive impact on our students' education. Thank you for your understanding and continued partnership.

Sincerely,

Mindy Casteel Mountain View Principal
