Dear Parents and Guardians,
This morning, McMinn County Schools was notified of a potentially armed suspect on the run in connection with an overnight criminal investigation. Out of an abundance of caution, we have placed our schools under a Secure status.
What does "Secure" mean?
A Secure Action is taken when there is a potential threat or hazard outside the school building. All students and staff are brought inside, and all exterior doors are locked to secure the building. Please note: Classes are continuing as normal inside. Instruction is not interrupted, and students remain safe and supervised.
If needed, access to and from the building will be limited and monitored by our School Resource Officer (SRO) to ensure everyone's safety.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep you informed of any updates.
Thank you for your continued support and trust.
Sincerely,
McMinn County School District

Due to an incident in our community, not involving the school or school district, Mountain View Elementary has been placed on a “Hold” and will have additional law enforcement officers present this afternoon to monitor the premises and visitors entering our property.
A hold means that our students & staff will remain inside the building until further information has been provided by the McMinn County Sheriff’s Department.
As parents and guardians arrive to pick up students for dismissal today, please have your student pick-up sign visible on the rearview mirror so the officers can clearly see it.
If you do not have a pick-up tag, be prepared to show your I.D.
Please understand that dismissal and pick-up times could be delayed.

MVS Parents,
In the art of transparency, we had a situation this morning where an individual drove through our driveway at an alarming speed and through our rear gate, causing damage to the gates as she left school property. In an abundance of caution, the administration and SRO shut and locked the remaining gates to secure the school's perimeter while using their discretion if further means of action were necessary. Fortunately, there was no need to put our school in a lockdown at that time. Additional law enforcement officers were immediately made aware of the incident and were able to follow up with the individual to take necessary legal actions. Again, we are thankful for the quick actions taken by our school administrators and SRO to ensure the safety of all our students and staff.
